Currently in San Francisco — July 11, 2024: Heat returns before the weekend

The weather, currently.

It’ll be hotter on Thursday again, with highs heading into the mid- to high-70s, depending as ever on your microclimate and our fickle, beautiful fog. Overnights will continue to be in the mid-50s.

While the rest of California endures punishing heat and storms endanger communities elsewhere across the country, I’m feeling extra grateful for our relatively stable summer weather in SF. Looks like we have a pleasant weekend ahead, too. Back with that forecast tomorrow.

What you can do, currently.

A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.

Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
