Currently in San Francisco — July 26, 2024: Mild weekend ahead

The weather, currently.

What great weekend weather we can all eagerly anticipate. Friday through Sunday, we’ll see morning fog and clouds burn off to make way for afternoon sun. Highs will be in the mid-60s. Evenings will stay mid-50s cool, with those offshore breezes continuing to create our beloved, localized natural air-conditioning.

I’m one of those individuals unusually sensitive to heat, and weekends like the one ahead make me grateful to live in such a literally cool city. Enjoy the days ahead; we’ll be back Monday to look at next week’s humid fog forecast.

What you can do, currently.

A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.

Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
