Currently in San Francisco — July 3, 2024: Heat advisory continues

The weather, currently.

The heat advisory continues Wednesday, with temperatures climbing over 80 across the city again. (An excessive heat warning is reserved for days in the 90s and above — thankfully not applicable in SF this week.)

While other parts of the Bay Area stay under heat warning until the weekend, ours officially ends late in the day Wednesday. But the rest of the week will stay hot. However you enjoy or escape the festivities of the 4th, stay hydrated.

What you can do, currently.

A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.

Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
