Currently in San Francisco — June 2, 2023
The weather, currently.
Partly sunny, with more sun and wind later in the day
For the first time in over 10 years, a wolverine was spotted in California (only the 2nd one seen in 101 years!!). On May 20, a skier on Mammoth Mountain spotted what looked like “a small bear … [with a] long tail” that suddenly took off into the woods as another skier approached. Wolverines were largely wiped out in California after human settlements decreased their habitat, but it seems that occasionally the ones that remain in the Rocky Mountains clamber into our state.
What you need to know, currently.
A Tropical Depression has formed in the central Gulf of Mexico, and is expected to continue bringing heavy showers and thunderstorms to most of Florida over the coming few days.
Even though hurricane season just started on Thursday, this depression is the second cyclone of the season. A subtropical storm formed in the Atlantic Ocean in mid-January, but was only recognized months later after forecasters reexamined old weather maps. If this week’s cyclone, TD2, continues to strengthen, it would be given the name ‘Arlene’.
